ABOUT ME

Lauren Stevens (she/her) is an artistic multi-hyphenate passionate for storytelling in theater, film and television.

Lauren Stevens is a Los Angeles-based director, performer, and producer dedicated to creating innovative, accessible, and inclusive work in theatre, film, and television.

 

She is currently in post-production for the short film, SEE WHERE IT GOES, a queer comedy about the horrors of the 21st Century lesbian dating scene, which she directed and produced. Lauren is currently the Head of Production for Camino Production Company, an organization dedicated to highlighting women and non-binary creatives in the film industry. Additionally, she works as a performer in an immersive children’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid in Los Angeles.

 

Last year, her queer bilingual short film JUNE which she directed and produced—premiered at the Academy Award and BAFTA qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival and was featured in dozens of film festivals nationwide. Lauren received the award of Best Female Director at the Sunset Film Festival for her work on this film. She has also worked as an Assistant Director at the renowned Geffen Playhouse and founded Out of the Blue Theatre Company, an immersive and experimental theater collective, where she also served as both the Executive Director and the Artistic Director. 

 

Lauren is a graduate from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television with an emphasis in Directing and Musical Theater. In addition to her classes within the Ray Bolger Musical Theatre Program and the UCLA Directing Continuum, she was able to pursue specialized studies in disciplines such as stage combat, Shakespearean performance, and music industry marketing.

 

Beyond directing, performing and producing, Lauren has worked as a dramaturg for UCLA’s Department of Theater, cast numerous films and theatrical productions for independent companies in Los Angeles, and earned several awards for her work as a costume, hair, and makeup designer. She also is deeply committed to arts education and has taught children ages 4-15 for over ten years.

 

Lauren is passionate about the joyous and healing nature of art and believes her interdisciplinary creative work gives her a holistic approach to all of her artistic pursuits. She loves telling stories that are personal and authentic to her, whether they are about queer characters or oldest siblings. In her free time, she enjoys discovering new gluten-free recipes, tackling the New York Times crossword, and expanding her ever growing collection of plays.
